I did not get a chance to look into the opening band for the Public Image Limited show so imagine my surprise when I see Chicago resident Jon Langford walk out on stage! It was an unexpected bonus having an evening with two punk legends. Bad Luck Jonathan is fronted by Jon Langford (Mekons) and Martin “Blueshammer” Billheimer with guitarist Phil Wandscher (Whiskeytown, Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter), bassist Alan Doughty (Jesus Jones, Waco Brothers) and Waco Brothers drummer Joe Camarillo. They were much less of an opening band and more of a co-headliner. They blasted through several songs heavily influenced by their combined blends of punk, rock, country or as they term it “voodoo socialist spacerock for this moment”. Langford is usually performing somewhere in Chicago and not to be missed. He is appearing at “From Blues to Blue Grass” The Radical Tradition in Politics and Music on February 9 at the Hideout benefiting the Young Patriots Organization. He is on tour with The Waco Brothers spring 2016.
