SXSWi 2013 was 4 jam-packed days of work, tech & music. HireVue was exhibiting & we had high volume traffic at our booth all week. The trade show floor closed at 6 pm and that is when my local sherpa, Norman Boyd III, took over as my Austin music guide.

Sunday – Day 1 – 3/10/13 Stubb’s & Club DeVille
Accompanied by Ben Martinez aka HRHound, our first stop was Stubb’s Austin where we caught the end of The Lone Bellow who I found too mellow. It was a bit too quiet and subdued there so we went to Club de Ville and saw most of the set from The Evolvers followed by Bryce Clifford & Brother Superior. Bryce rocked much louder than the original single I found on Reverbnation. He did a great cover of Rudie Can’t Fail and afterwards we had a conversation about his hometown of Toronto, one of my favorite concert destinations in the 80’s.
Next stop Flamingo Cantina
The Flamingo Cantina was holding the 3rd annual Punk vs. Rockabilly Show. We arrived in time to see most of the set from Danger*Cakes (@Danger_Cakes) who were ripping it up. You can grab a few free tracks from Reverbnation. They were followed by the punk band The Buzzkillers. The last band of the evening was The Lucky Odds who closed out the night with some more great rockabilly. I talked with the Danger *Cakes lead singer Jamie Bahr after the show. She is a fascinating artist working on several projects. By day she is a music teacher and is also in the fashion business. All in all, day 1 proved to be a great warm up for the rest of the week.
